The Nervous Nellie Story This is the story of Nervous Nellie, as told and illustrated by her creator, Peter Beerits. Nellie is the red bird with the yellow beak, wielding a wooden spoon, who is chasing a raspberry on our logo. Her journey, beginning in Glitzburg and ending on an island in Maine, is an adventure story for all ages. Each Episode $4.95
The Nervous Nellie Story
Episode 1: Escape From Glitzburg

Unwitting bearer of a mysterious crystal, Nellie barely escapes the clutches of Mr. Big and the shadowy Baron von Krankshafft. She discovers both friends and adversaries in unusual places and learns how to hear the truthful voice inside that guides her journey. It’s a page-turner! Plan to sit on the edge of your chair!

Episode 2: Into the Land of Shadows

In Episode Two, Nellie's travels and adventures take her across many miles of desert to Shadowtown, literally a town that is a shadow of its former self. Nellie's unusually open heart permits her to see its shadowy residents and she is counseled by a wise old man known as Halfway Kinsley or, more respectfully, El Viejo.

Episode 3: The Three Chairs of Judgment

A tough cookie named Mama Rosa heals Obie with a potent potion and he and Nellie head for the safe haven of Razzie's Cantina. The proprietor is, indeed, a raspberry, and proves himself quite an orator in a decisive verbal battle before the Senate with Baron von Krankshafft who represents the opposing argument. Obie then has a rendezvous with his own destiny (remember the Green-eyed Girl….) in a trial before the Three Chairs of Judgment. Justice prevails, but the Baron strikes again, with force.

Episode 4: Showdown on Main Street

Nellie and Obie flee the attack on Angel's dance hall and head north, to the shortgrass prairie where Obie grew up. But when they reach Obie's hometown, they find that the Baron has gotten there first. Evil plots are afoot, which lead to the showdown on Main Street.

Episode 5: The Long Trail

Nellie resumes her journey East only to be swept up by the great changes which are engulfing her world. The Badfaces, who have barricaded the Long Trail, bring her to their camp and take her with them as they go on raids, seeking to defeat a plot to turn Folk into zombies. The Baron sends Frontier Police to reopen the Long Trail, and a great battle ensues. Nellie saves the day with a device invented at the Quantum Castle.

  Brown Ash Potato Baskets

Handmade in the Native American tradition, these baskets are made from Maine brown ash trees which are, unfortunately, suffering a severe decline. Species competition, climate changes? It’s not clear. These baskets were handmade by craftsmen in their 70s, among the few who still work from the log to the finished basket.

A good brown ash log for basket-making is straight and free of knots, at least 6” in diameter and from 5-12 feet long. Splints for weaving are produced by pounding sections of the log until the wood splits along the annual growth rings, producing splints of exceptional strength. They are then soaked to make them pliable enough for weaving. A laborious practice, needless to say…
A basket designed to hold potatoes will hold anything you choose to put in it and will last a lifetime.
