Hand made by prisoners in the Maine Correctional system, this wood miniature is a skillfully-rendered replica of a lobster boat--fitted out for lobstering; complete with wooden traps and a wooden pot buoy. The Maine State Prison has had an industrial program since 1825 when inmates worked in the quarry, farmed, and built wagons, sleighs and wheel barrows. Today the wood shop gives inmates an chance to learn marketable job skills, work ethics and responsibility, tools for reentry into the workforce upon release. Lobster boats are approx 7" long, and yes, they do float.
